‘Green’ service set
The congregation of Union City First United Methodist Church invites the community to join them for the annual Hanging of the Green service Sunday at 10:50 a.m. at 420 East Main St. in Union City. This is a change of time from the regular observance of the beginning of the Advent season.
The service will include special music, the lighting of the Advent candle by members of the congregation, the reading of scripture that refers to the birth of Christ, the bringing in to the sanctuary of special and beautiful items to remind worshipers of the purpose of the season, the completed decoration of the Chrismon tree with ornaments fashioned by members of the congregation over the years and the placing of gifts beneath the tree. These donated items will then be given to Reelfoot Rural Ministries to stock the shelves for the annual Toy Store event. Parents can shop at the store for special prices.
Sunday will also be an opportunity for members of the congregation to make their annual commitment pledge to the financial work of the church.
The community is invited to attend, according to the pastor, the Rev. Stan Waldon.
Music fund raiser set
Blood Wash Trio will present a fund raiser for Christina Jimerson, a stabbing victim, 7 p.m. Friday at Samburg Assembly of God.
Also appearing will be Blessed Assurance, the Van Cleave Trio and the Mistonairs. The public is invited to attend.

Bazaar planned
St. Jude Catholic Church’s 13th annual Country Christmas Bazaar is set for Saturday from  8 a.m.-3 p.m. in the church’s social hall in Martin,.
To celebrate the event’s lucky 13th anniversary, a Colorado Log Cabin patterned quilt will be given away. The queen-size quilt, made by four women of the church, may be viewed  at www.stjudemartin.org.
The day will begin with a hot breakfast of sausage, biscuits and gravy, fruit and a drink.
Luncheon will be homemade meat lasagna with the Mannings’ secret homemade sauce and garlic bread and a salad.
The events will include a bake sale and an arts and craft fair with a large selection of high quality crafts and gifts such as holiday ornaments, jewelry, hand carvings from the Holy Land, bath gels and lotions, homemade candy, personalized books, stained-glass items, wooden rocking chairs and much more.
For more information contact Judy Mehan, Country Christmas Bazaar chairman, by phone at (731) 587-9086 or jjmehan@frontiernet.net or the church at 587-9777.

Van needed
Old Landmark Church, located at 1101 Vine St. in Union City, is in need of a new van to enable members to travel to areas of ministry around the country.
The congregation is seeking to raise $40,000 to purchase transportation and is accepting donations through the website at www.gofundme.com/1K188w.
Cynthia Parker, chairman of the fund-raising effort, may be contacted at 885-8083.
Bishop Frederick Mitchell is the pastor.

To sell chittlins
The women’s department of PEOC Ministry, located at 2131 Nailling Drive in Union City, will sell chittlin’ dinners Sunday at 1 p.m. at that location.
The menu will include chittlins, spaghetti, cole slaw, dessert and drink for $6.50.
“Come out and join us, all you chittlin’ lovers. We will be glad to have you and will be enjoying good, tender chittlins,” a spokesman said.
