Food drive to begin

Posted: Friday, December 7, 2012 9:05 pm

The Messenger, December 7, 2012
Ridgemont Elementary School will be conducting a food drive next week to benefit Reelfoot Rural Ministry.
Students should have brought home notes with information about what items are needed. They have been encouraged to participate to help others in need during the holiday season, according to a spokesman, and the community is also being invited to participate.
To make the project more fun, the note asked students to bring breakfast items such as Pop Tarts, cereal and oatmeal on Monday (however, county schools have since announced closure for Monday due to sickness); lunch items such as peanut butter, jelly and condiments on Tuesday; supper items such as spaghetti sauce, noodles, dry or canned potatoes and crackers on Wednesday; staple items such as flour, sugar, corn meal and pancake mix or syrup on Thursday; and personal items such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and deodorant on Dec. 14.
Participants may send any items on any given day, however, the spokesman said.
Anyone may drop off items during school hours. Everything will be placed under the big Christmas tree in the front lobby before being delivered to Reelfoot Rural Ministry in time for Christmas.
