Make-up date good
for junior Red Devils

South Fulton swept Black Oak in a junior high basketball make-up doubleheader Thursday night, winning 38-33 in the girls’ game and 58-20 in boys’ play.
A 16-6 run in the second quarter was enough for the Red Devilettes in the opener as they battled back from a 10-6 deficit after one for a 22-16 halfime lead.
Emma Glisson had 17 points, nine rebounds and four steals, Diamond Smith added nine points and seven steals, and Tiffany Potts had six points, five steals and five rebounds for the Devilettes.
The boys’ game was never in doubt, SF up 17-2 after one quarter, 30-9 at the half and 47-16 after three periods.
Jyriq Jones had 12 points and eight rebounds, Gevin Courtney tossed in 12 points, Demarco Walker added 10 points, and Branden Walker had nine points and six rebounds for the Red Devils.
Blake Jones scored seven points for the Eagles.

Huntingdon leads
area All-State list

Huntingdon had five players on the Class 1A All-State football team, and Dresden had a pair of players picked in Class 2A in a vote of the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.
Jacob Warbritton was picked at quarterback, Dylan Hindman and Colin Pruett on the offensive line,  and both Logan Diebold and Tyler Bush at linebacker from Huntingdon.
In addition, Lake County’s Devon Jones was selected as an athlete on offense, while Tyler Madison (offensive line) and Robert Reynolds (linebacker) made the team from West Carroll.
Josh Turnbow was an offensive lineman pick, and Devan Raymer was selected at defensive back from Dresden on the 2A team.
Other regional 2A picks included Tavarian Barnett (running back), Ty Fields (linebacker) and Hayden Whitby (defensive lineman) from Trenton, Nic McLilly (athlete) from Humboldt, Chase Diggs (wide receiver) from Trinity Christian and Adamsville’s Colton Williams (offensive line), Dustin Plunk (kicker), Jacob Dengler (linebacker) and Taylor Henry (defensive back).

Wisconsin appears
to have new coach

Multiple media outlets are reporting Wisconsin will hire Utah State’s Gary Andersen as head football coach to replace Bret Bielema.
The Wisconsin State Journal was first to report that Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez had offered Andersen the job Tuesday night. Andersen is in his fourth year at Utah State and is coming off his best season yet.
The 18th-ranked Aggies won the Western Athletic Conference and finished 11-2, with a school record for victories after beating Toledo 41-15 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Saturday.
Utah State lost 16-14 at Wisconsin earlier this season.
The 48-year-old Andersen is 26-24 at Utah State. He took over in Logan, Utah, after spending five seasons as defensive coordinator at the University of Utah under Kyle Whittingham.
Bielema left Wisconsin for Arkansas.
