Apron Extravaganza | Mary Louise Davis, Mason Hall Family and Community Education Club, West Tennessee Apron Extravaganza

FIRST PLACE — Mary Louise Davis of Kenton, a member of Mason Hall Family and Community Education Club, recently won first place at the West Tennessee Apron Extravaganza, which had 158 aprons entered. The categories included fancy, vintage, Sunday best, children’s, BBQ, diva, everyday and recyled. West Tennessee Family and Consumer Science University of Tennessee Extension agents organized the event to spotlight aprons of the past and the present. It was held at the West Tennessee Ag Center in Jackson. Around 200 people attended and 13 vendors sold their wares. Apron anthropologist and noted author EllynAnne Geisel presented stories on aprons through history as visitors enjoyed the exhibits of aprons on loan from the Apron Museum in Iuka, Miss. The Apron Museum claims to be the “world’s only museum dedicated to preserving the history of the apron.” A sit-down lunch was enjoyed by all.
