Rebels’ QB Club sets
welcome for coach
The Obion County Central Quarterback Club will host a welcoming for new Rebel head football coach Kevin Goltra and his family Saturday from 2-4 p.m.
The event will be held in the multipurpose building at the OCCHS fieldhouse.
Goltra was hired as Central’s new skipper in December.
He spent last season as the head coach at Kenwood High School in Clarksville after a two-year stint as defensive coordinator with the program.
Goltra served as the defensive coordinator at Obion County Central in 2009.
Red Devil squads
beat UCMS twice
South Fulton beat Union City twice Monday night in middle school hoops, the Devilettes triumphing 47-38, and the SF boys winning a close 34-32 decision.
The Red Devilettes exploded for a 22-4 advantage in the fourth quarter to rally past UC in the opener.
Union City led at the end of each of the first three periods, owning an 8-7 advantage after one, a 20-18 margin at the half and a 34-25 lead at the conclusion of three frames.
But, SF forced several turnovers with its fullcourt press to spark the comeback.
Tiffany Potts had 16 points and four steals, and Emma Glisson added 12 points and seven rebounds for SF. Madison Brown had four boards, and Brittany Proctor grabbed four steals.
Union City got 12 points from Tykesha Vaughn, 10 points and eight rebounds from Alivia Bishop and 11 rebounds and eight markers from Chynia Hyde. Chante DeBerry finished with eight points and six rebounds for the Lady Tornadoes (7-7).
In the nightcap, South Fulton avenged an earlier loss to the Twisters (10-2).
Jyriq Jones had 13 points and eight rebounds for the winners while Zaccius Mays hauled down 12 rebounds to go along with three blocked shots.
Jeremy Bumpus had 10 points and Willaevion Burton eight for Union City.
Cougars win pair
over Black Oak
Hillcrest swept Black Oak in a middle school basketball doubleheader Monday night, winning the girls’ game 41-36 and the boys’ nightcap 44-25.
In the opener, Courtney Heuck turned in a stellar outing with 22 points and 11 rebounds to pace the victors, who improved to 8-3 after rallying from an 18-8 halftime deficit. Macey Cox also shined for the Lady Cougars with a double-double (10 points, 15 rebounds).
Black Oak (1-8) was paced by Nellina Wooten, who finished with 22 points and a half-dozen board. Trisha Schmidt pitched in with 11 markers for the Lady Eagles.
Game 2 saw H’crest (6-5) move over the .500 mark.
Garrett Northam led the Cougars with 10 points. Greg Nance ended up with eight points and seven rebounds, while Hunter Brown tallied seven markers and Rhett Thomas Fussell handed out five assists.
