The Messenger, January 11, 2013 An Obion County man charged in Fulton County, Ky., with possessing a firearm as a convicted felon has been indicted by a grand jury. Ricky Lewis Richards, 47, of Union City was indicted Thursday by a Fulton County grand jury on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, as well as a charge of persistent felony offender, according to the Fulton County Circuit Court clerk’s office. He was arraigned Thursday and his pre-trial conference scheduled for Feb. 14 in Fulton County Circuit Court. Richards had waived his case to the grand jury at a preliminary hearing Dec. 18 in Fulton County District Court in Hickman, Ky., after being charged in November. Richards was arrested on the weapons offense about 5:30 a.m. Nov. 10 in the lower Hickman bottom area of Fulton County. He was allegedly in possession of a loaded muzzleloader rifle and was believed to be deer hunting at the time, according to a citation issued by a Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife officer. Richards had been sentenced in Obion County in June 2009 in connection with the Nov. 15, 2008, fatal shooting of Union City native John Burnett, 44, of Paris on a wildlife refuge near Walnut Log. He entered a guilty plea to a charge of criminally negligent homicide, a Class E felony.
