Vol guard Golden
out for Arkansas

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee guard Trae Golden has a strained right hamstring that likely will prevent him from playing Saturday at Arkansas.
Golden injured the hamstring late in the first half of a 58-57 victory over Vanderbilt and sat out the rest of the game. Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin said Thursday that an MRI revealed a strain and that Golden was “very doubtful” for the Arkansas game.
Although Golden fell out of the starting lineup on Jan. 12, the 6-foot-2 junior ranks third on the team in scoring (10.0) and fourth in minutes (26.9).
Golden’s injury likely will create more playing time for sophomore walk-on Brandon Lopez. After not appearing in five straight games, Lopez played 10 minutes against Vanderbilt and had three assists without any turnovers.

UTM riders headed
to Florida festival

Katie Miranda and Kara Bergenty, both members of the UT Martin equestrian team, will compete in the fourth annual Collegiate Equitation Challenge as part of the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Fla.
The finals of the event will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 8 in the International Arena at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
The event will be conducted utilizing the National Collegiate Equit-ation Association head-to-head bracketed format with the 16 top collegiate riders from across the country. Participating riders will compete over an equitation course that features heights up to three feet, six inches.
Competition begins at 1 p.m. with the preliminary round, which includes each of the 16 riders. The eight winners qualify for the finals to be held in the evening session at 6 p.m., while the remaining eight horses will contest a consolation bracket immediately following the preliminary round. For the second consecutive year, the competition will include a four-rider equitation on the flat tournament that will occur during the finals.
The horses will be on loan from local professionals and unfamiliar to the riders. The winner of the consolation bracket will take home a trophy donated by Pierre and Martha Jolicoeur, while the champion will be presented a trophy sponsored by the South Florida Hunter Jumper Association.
