A weekend sweep of Halls and Trenton has South Fulton climbing the District 14A ladder.
The Devilettes are now in second place behind only No. 1-ranked Union City after drubbing Halls 62-38 and Peabody 67-36.
South Fulton’s girls (17-5, 10-3) can clinch the second seed in the upcoming league tournament — which they will host — if Union City beats Lake County tonight, or if the Devilettes top the Lady Tornadoes in Thursday’s make-up game.
The SF boys (14-9, 7-6) are now tied with Bradford for fourth in the 14A standings after beating Halls 74-40 and Trenton 60-43.
The Redmen, who’ve won three straight 14A games, will be seeded fourth, fifth or sixth in the district tournament.
The following is a weekend recap of South Fulton’s games.
SF 62, Halls 38 (G)
Laken Haley had 18 points, five steals and three assists for the Devilettes, who were up comfortably 38-13 at the half.
Taleeah Cross finished with 15 points, while Ka-Lon Martin added eight markers and six rebounds. Landry Webster scored seven.
South Fulton had won an earlier meeting of the two, 65-48.
SF 74, Halls 40 (B)
The Red Devils both started fast and finished strong on Friday, up 16-8 after one and then closing the contest with a 20-5 run.
A 21-11 second period in which SF extended its lead with leading scorer Harrison Hawks on the bench gave the Big Red a 37-19 lead at the half.
Keyshawn McManus continued his recent stellar play with another double-double (22 points, 10 rebounds), while Clint Wells added 14 markers.
T.J. Ingram turned in a solid performance at the controls of the South Fulton offense with 10 points and eight assists.
SF 67, Trenton 36 (G)
Winless Peabody offered little resistance to SF Saturday.
The Devilettes were up 25-5 at the first break and 40-15 at the half.
Haley continued her stellar play of late with 19 points, eight rebounds and five steals.
Cross chipped in with 14, while Sydney Easterwood finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Martin gave South Fulton four players in double figures scoring-wise with 10 markers.
SF 60, Trenton 43 (B)
Playing in the first game of the night so that head coach Wes Miller might coach the SFMS boys in the West Sectional Tournament at Martin later, SF again led wire-to-wire — though not as comfortably.
Wells led the way with 18 points, while Hawks added 13 and four assists.
Tevaris James posted 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Redmen led 15-8 at the first-quarter horn and 33-22 at the intermission. An 18-8 fourth quarter advantage sealed the deal.
