Despite all of the adversity the Gleason girls have been through this season, they were able to remain on top of the District 13A standings — until Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs lost for the second time in as many games and went from a tie for first place down to third after Huntingdon took the season series with a 53-38 win.
Huntingdon is still tied for first with Dresden, which beat Clarksburg 68-32 Friday night. Both teams have a 13-2 record, but Dresden owns the top spot due to its season sweep of Huntingdon.
The Lady Bulldogs are 12-3 with one district game left on the schedule. Gleason plays at home against McKenzie on Friday and will finish with the third spot.
The Bulldogs (2-19, 2-13) fought hard against Huntingdon (14-11, 11-4), but the Mustangs were too much in a 66-28 win.
Gleason made it a pink-out night for Terry Frazier and presented her with a signed basketball from both the girls’ and boys’ teams between the games. She was also presented with a check for $1,000 for breast cancer research.

Huntingdon (20-4) was making shots from all over the place, and Gleason’s defense could do very little to stop the Fillies from scoring.
Having Briana Jones on the bench for seven minutes of the second period after she picked up two fouls did not help the Lady Bulldogs (18-6).
Jones was called for a charging foul after she drove to the basket. Her second foul came while trying to penetrate Huntingdon’s press.
Huntingdon took full advantage of Gleason’s leading scorer being on the bench with a 13-2 second period to take an 18-11 lead at halftime.
The Fillies went up first on a 3-pointer by Morgan McMackin to start the game. The Lady Bulldogs answered with baskets by Kim Quick, Emily Bell and Jones. Jaclyn Montgomery gave the Lady Bulldogs a 9-5 lead on a jumper to close out the first period.
Jones scored the first six points of the third period to make it an 18-17 game. Then, Huntingdon came right back with a 10-point run with triples by McMacklin and Hannah Belew. Jones cut the lead back down to nine twice before Allee Maxwell converted a 3-point play to end the third period.
Gleason finally got some hot shooting in final period with Montgomery hitting a pair of triples and Jones hitting one. Quick and Bell scored a basket each as the Lady Bulldogs put 17 points on the scoreboard in the fourth period. The Fillies continued their hot shooting and scored 20 points.
Jones led the Lady Bulldogs with a game-high 19 points. Maxwell led Huntingdon with 17 points followed by Belew with 13.
Huntingdon’s head coach Farris Lowery picked up his 500th win during his 23 years as a head coach at four different schools.

The Bulldogs could not get it going in the first period as the Mustangs ran away with a 16-4 lead.
It did not get any better for Gleason in the second with Keaton Collins and Austin Perry scoring the only baskets.
The Bulldogs did continue to battle hard in the third period by scoring 12 points. Alex Hahn and Jake Horn each hit a 3-pointer along with Chris Sumner scoring on a pair of baskets.
A low scoring fourth period saw Huntingdon put up seven points while Gleason only scored five. Sumner led Gleason with eight points, followed by Perry with seven.
Jake Sisk led Huntingdon with a game-high 18 points, while Justice Scott tossed in 14. Published in The WCP 2.5.13
