The Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society chapter at the University of Tennessee at Martin will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday in Watkins Auditorium of Boling University Center for the Muriel Tomlinson Memorial Lecture.
This year’s Muriel Tomlinson lecturer is Jenna Stoker Wright, associate professor and chair of the UT Martin Department of English and Modern Foreign Languages.
Her presentation is titled “Fourth House from the One Stop-and-Go Light” and will include her original published and award-winning creative writings.
The Muriel Tomlinson Lecture is an annual event honoring the memory of Dr. Tomlinson, a member of Phi Kappa Phi who died in 1976. A distinguished professor is chosen each year to give this lecture.
Ms. Wright teaches creative writing classes and advanced grammar classes at UT Martin. Her creative writings have appeared in several journals, including Calliope and the workbook text “Poetry Analysis: Understanding and Crit-iquing Poetry.” Plus, she has received honors in non-fiction and national poetry competitions.
Ms. Wright is a Smith Professorship Endowment recipient and has received numerous teaching awards and honors, including the UT Martin Coffey Out-standing Teacher Award, the UT National Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher Award, the UT Martin Outstanding Edu-cator Award, the UT Martin PACE Outstanding Teacher Award and UT Martin’s The Pacer Teacher of the Year.
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi was founded more than 100 years ago and is America’s oldest all-discipline college honor society. It awards more than $700,000 each year to outstanding members for further academic study.
For more information, contact Dr. David Carithers at (731) 881-7290 or dcarithers@utm.edu.
