Southern Turf Management opens

Posted: Tuesday, February 12, 2013 12:00 am

Drew and Beth Williams have expanded their passion for lawn care into a new business — Southern Turf Management.
The Newbern couple have been running a landscaping and lawn mowing business and now Mrs. Williams has branched out and started her lawn management service.
The Williams operate out of their home in Newbern, but Mrs. Williams estimated 80 percent of their business is in Union City.
They also have clients in Newbern, Jackson, Dyersburg and Martin.
Mrs. Williams earned a degree in natural resource management from the University of Tennessee at Martin, where she studied soil and water conservation.
Now, she is putting her degree to good use helping homeowners bring out the best in their lawn.
She meets with clients at their home and determines her fee based on the square footage of the client’s yard. A soil test is done on the yard and based on the results of the test, a personalized fertilizing program is put together.
Mrs. Williams said the initial consultation and estimate are free of charge.
She runs her new company from a shop at her home in Newbern.
Her husband, she said, has been mowing lawns since he was 8 years old. His father, Philip Williams, ran a lawn mowing business until he died two years ago.
The Williams have taken over the lawnmowing business and have been working on landscaping and mowing for more than eight years with Drew Williams’ best friend, Brandon Coats, working as their only employee.
She handles all the lawn spraying, fertilizing and application of lime for her clients’ lawns.
There are no set hours for Mrs. Williams’ business. She can be reached at (731) 676-0749.
The Williams are so dedicated to their work, Mrs. Williams said she hopes someday their daughter will take over their work.
