Lady Cavs still can’t stop Vincent

Teddy Vincent helped Westview kick off the District 13AA quarterfinals with a big first half as the Lady Chargers beat Crockett County 64-36 on Monday.
Vincent seems to step it up a notch whenever she plays the Lady Cavaliers. She scored 42 points against CC in the first meeting, 26 points in Friday night’s game and another 26 on Monday.
Vincent scored Westview’s first 14 points of the game with the assists on a pair of 3-pointers. Kaley Leyhue scored on a 3-pointer from the wing to give the Lady Chargers a 17-6 lead and complete a 14-point run.
“I knew it was Teddy with a certain amount and Crockett County with a certain amount there for a little while,” head coach Sean Stephenson said. “Teddy got off to a good start and got some points off of transition. We did a good job of getting it to her during the first part of the game.
Westview (25-4) will now play Obion Central in the semifinals on Thursday at Dyersburg High School. Just making it to the semifinals ensures the Lady Chargers will have at least three more games to play. Stephenson has his sights set on hosting a first round game in the Region 7AA Tournament.
“We are proud to get to the regional tournament and glad our regular season helped us to be able to host tonight,” Stephenson said. “Our job Thursday against Obion is to try to get a home region game. That’s basically what is on the line for that game.”
Westview had to fight off a bit of a challenge from the Lady Cavaliers late in the first period as they scored eight straight points thanks to a pair of 3-pointers that cut the lead to 17-14. Tiffany Rechis hit 1-of-2 free throws to give the Lady Chargers a 20-14 lead to end the first period.
Westview scored 10 straight from the end of the first to the first two minutes of the second period. Kaley Leyhue capped off the run with her second triple of the game. Westview then closed out the half on an eight-point run to take a 37-18 lead at the break.
Crockett County could have made it a closer game in the first half, but the Lady Cavs missed several second and third chance shots as they were hitting the offensive glass hard.
The lack of rebounding against Crockett County is a concern for the Westview head coach with Obion Central coming up next in the semifinals.
“We did not rebound very well, and if we do not make an effort going forward against the teams that we have got to play then that is going to be problem,” Stephenson said. “Hopefully we will get focused to get ready to do that on Thursday.”
Westview outscored CC 22-7 in third to put the game out of reach. Vincent scored her last six points of the game in the period. Rechis scored five of her eight points in the period, including a 3-pointer and Kaley Leyhue also hit her third triple of the game. Published in The WCP 2.12.13
