BOOKIN’ IT — Gleason High School Beta member Austin Shafer reads to first-grader Hayden Poore as part of the “Reading Partners” Program. For a service project, members of Gleason High School’s Beta Club recently volunteered their time to team up with first-graders in the “Reading Partners” Program. Each Beta member was paired with a first-grader to begin. The partners then read together from picture books and children’s educational magazines provided by the school library. Not only do these reading partnerships bind Gleason school students closely together in a learning community, they also nurture and encourage a love of reading. Gleason Beta members will continue the successful “Reading Partners” program multiple times throughout the remainder of the school year. Beta Club sponsors at the school are assistant principal Lee Lawrence and school librarian Amy Lawrence. Published in The WCP 2.12.13
