Junior Auxiliary hosting annual charity ball
By DONNA RYDER
Associate Editor
Junior Auxiliary of Obion County is returning to its roots for its annual charity ball this year.
The charity organization is bringing the ball back to where it began at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Home 4862 and is extending a special invitation to all former and lifetime members to attend the event, which is scheduled for Feb. 23.
Cocktail hour will be 6-7 p.m. and dinner will follow from 7-8:30, during which time there will be a live auction of donated items. Participants may also bid on silent auction items from 6-10 and be entertained by the band BulletTown from 8:30-midnight.
BulletTown is a repeat performer from the 2012 charity ball. The Jackson-based group performs at parties, wedding receptions and clubs in the West Tennessee area under the direction of founder, singer and lead guitarist Allan Davis. The band plays a wide variety of songs and styles, including pop, rock ’n’ roll, blues and dance.
The cost of the event is $50 per person. A VIP table for eight may be reserved for $450. The cost includes two bottles of wine. Checks may be mailed to Junior Auxiliary of Obion County, P.O. Box 853, Union City, TN 38281. The deadline to reserve a seat is Friday. This may be done by calling Tammy Allen at (731) 431-6704 or Cristina Grimm at (731) 592-0865 so a sufficient amount of food can be ordered.
Everyone in the community is welcome to attend, with all proceeds benefiting the youth of Obion County.
Those unable to attend who wish to support Junior Auxiliary may send a donation to the post office box address.
“Care Today — Character Tomorrow” is the slogan for Junior Auxiliary of Obion County.
The group is led this year by president Mrs. Allen, vice president Miss Grimm, secretary Zoe Ramage, treasurer Tina Adams and provisional chairman Tara Tubbs.
This year’s charity ball committee includes Mrs. Allen, Miss Grimm, Miss Ramage, Ms. Adams, Ms. Tubbs, Jessica Whaley, Alex Gammons, Kathy Dupois, Amber Moore, Kayla Sherwood and Angela Davis.
Junior Auxiliary is comprised of women ages 23 and older. To be a lifetime member, women are asked to commit five active years and one provisional year to the organization. The JA’s Crown Club is made up of high school girls who have been nominated for membership in the organization.
The group’s service projects include “Taking Care of Me,” a hygiene project; Adopt-a-Family, a child welfare project; Diaper Divas; Coats for Kids; Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Tennessee-Union City honor roll parties; Obion County Public Library programs; Fairest of the Fair; CornFest; Support Our Schools; Safeline; Healthy Start, Healthy Finish; and food bank.
