Aerobatic demonstrations, plane rides only part of upcoming Airport Expo
By KEVIN BOWDEN
Staff Reporter
Everett-Stewart Regional Airport will host an Airport Expo, with a variety of activities geared for youngsters and a business expo involving Obion and Weakley counties.
The one-day expo will take place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. May 18.
There will be fly-in and static aviation displays set up at the airport as well as aerobatic demonstrations, airplane and helicopter rides, and what is being described as youth aviation adventures.
There is no admission fee to attend the Airport Expo, but there will be fees for some of the activities.
Other activities geared toward youth will be pony rides, a petting zoo, a climbing wall, bouncy houses and food vendors.
“This is the first time we’ve tried to put on an event like this and we’re hoping for a big turnout,” airport manager Jo Ann Speer said. “We’ve been talking about doing something like this for more than a year.”
Mrs. Speer is working with Barbara Virgin at the Weakley County Chamber of Commerce and Lindsay Frilling at the Obion County Chamber of Commerce.
The band Buck Sixx will perform outdoors that Saturday evening on the west lawn of the terminal building. The six-member band is from Middle Tennessee and performs a variety of country/rock songs.
“They are really an awesome band,” said Mrs. Speer, noting the band can be found performing on YouTube.
Then there is the business expo that will take place outdoors on the east and west sides of the terminal. There will be 10-foot-by-10-foot spaces set up for businesses from Obion and Weakley counties.
“I’ve already begun receiving phone calls about it, so I believe it will be well attended,” Mrs. Speer said.
In the event of inclement weather, the Airport Expo will be moved to May 19 from 1-4 p.m.
The local airport has hosted similar activities in the past, such as the Airport Extravaganza and Airport Day, but this is the first time the airport has held an Airport Expo.
