UTM music faculty shine in spotlight

UTM’s Department of Music held its Faculty Musicale Monday in Watkins Auditorium.
The faculty performed music by three historical music composers: Boris Blacher, Giuseppe Sammartini and Georges Enesco.
Faculty members from the music department that performed in the musical were Dr. Kurt Gorman, Dr. Joseph Frye, Ms.Delana Easley, Dr. Douglas Owens and Dr. Elaine Harriss. 
The first musical performance, “Divertimento for Trumpet, Trombone, and Piano,” was by German composer Boris Blacher.  The musical piece consists of seven movements: allegro, andantino, presto, moderato, allegretto, quarter=56 and presto including solo pieces for the trumpet and trombone.
Faculty members who performed this musical selection were Gorman (trumpet), Frye (trombone) and Easley.
Gorman teaches studio trumpet and directs the jazz ensemble at UTM.
Frye teaches courses in music technology, music theory, music appreciation, brass methods and aural skills.
Easley is collaborative pianist for the department of music and also accompanies the university choirs.
“Sonata in G,” composed by Italian composer and oboist Giuseppe Sammartini, was the next musical piece performed by Owens, who played the oboe along with Harriss playing the piano.
This selection had four movements: andante, allegro assai, andante lento and allegro.
Owens is assistant professor of music and teaches applied double reeds and music theory. Harriss is chair and also professor of music.
The last musical piece, “Legend,” was by Romanian composer and violinist Georges Enesco. Gorman played the trumpet accompanied by Easley playing the piano.
