Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church news

We had another beautiful service with good attendance Sunday. In our opening assembly we sang, “Church in the Wildwood” and “Where the Soul Never Dies.

After the call to worship, we sang “Face to Face.” Roetta McCutchen was the pianist, and Lonnie Hazlewood was the song leader. Next, prayers were made for those whose names were added to our list of prayer concerns.

Larry Morgan sang “Why Me, Lord.” It was followed by a request that Larry render another song. He graciously consented and sang “My Tribute.”

Bro. Durwood turned the service to our guest speaker, Craig Worley. He and his wife Rizza, from Murfreesboro, had made a surprise visit to be with Mrs. Frances “Granny” Brown on her 91st birthday Feb. 16. Craig read selected verses from Job 1.  His message was about the “Three Daughters of Job.”  He began by asking us if we’d ever had a bad day. I think everyone’s response was “yes.” Then he asked if anyone had ever experienced a day that was a disaster. He then told us of a day wherein Job lost all his possessions and his children. None of us had experienced one like that. He proceeded to speak of the trials, sufferings, and patience of Job. Yet, Job never turned from trusting and loving God.  In his closing, Craig told of how God restored to Job twice the possessions he had lost, and gave him seven more sons and three daughters. The Bible does not give the names of his sons, but it gives the names of his three daughters, Jemima – meaning warm, affectionate, love dove; Kezia – meaning stripped away, like bark from a tree and Keren-happuch – meaning beautiful eyes that see light at the end of a dark tunnel.

After the benediction, we all gathered in the fellowship hall for a wonderful meal and great fellowship.
