The Messenger, February 21, 2013 Faye Passmore, outreach leader, opened the recent meeting of Lael Sunday School Class at Union City First Baptist Church with prayer. The group met at the family life center at the church. Prayers for the sick were offered, with special prayer for a class member, Arlene Keeling, who is in the hospital in Memphis. Joyce Stephens led in prayer. Louise Petty, class devotional leader, provided the devotion. She took the message from John 4:8 and used a passage from the book “God’s Love,” written by John Sherrill. He wrote that he had a dream two weeks after he had quadruple heart bypass and valve replacement. He was 87 years old and the doctor said he might not make it. In the dream, he was walking on a ridge with unstable rock under his feet. His wife, Tib, was walking ahead of him. In his dream, she turned and called over her shoulder, “I love you.” He noted that those three little words echoed in his ear as he woke up. He realized that this was what love was all about. She had spent sleepless nights quietly standing by him and waiting on his needs. He concluded that this is an image of Jesus’ love — walking just ahead of us, guiding our steps and pointing the way. Ms. Petty was hostess and she served red velvet cake, candy kisses and trail mix with drinks. Those attending were Pat Cunningham, Edna McIntosh, Lena Mai Pruitt, Dot Capps, Jean Eaker, Trudie Thornton, Mrs. Stephens, Dorothy Rasberry, Ms. Petty and Mrs. Passmore The next class meeting will be March 12, with Ms. Pruitt as hostess.
