A course offering instruction for those wishing to prepare for a career in health care will be offered by the University of Tennessee at Martin and Dyersburg State Community College from 6-9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Tuesday through Aug. 1 on the campus of Dyersburg State.
The program will teach students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office.  Instruction includes preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle.
It includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands-on labs and a clinical externship opportunity at a local health-care provider. To be eligible for the clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140-hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements. A 160-hour clinical externship is also required.
Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.
Cost is $2,399 and includes all supplies and textbooks.
For more information or to register, contact ECOS at (731) 881-7082.
