Humboldt claims
Region 7A crown

Humboldt led from wire-to-wire in claiming the Region 7A boys’ championship with a 57-46 victory over Lake County Thursday night.
The Vikings (26-6) were up 12-6 after one and 32-18 at the half in beating LC (7-23) for the third time in four meetings this season.
De’Sonta Bradford had 15 of his game-high 17 points in the first half for H’boldt, which also got 11 markers from Trayvon Brown.
Zay Coleman was limited to 15 points for Lake County after netting 30 in the Falcons’ semifinal triumph over Union City.
Both teams will advance on to Monday’s sectional — H’boldt at home vs. Trinity Christian, and Lake County at Memphis Academy for Healthy Sciences.

Three Vol jerseys
slated to be retired

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee is retiring the jerseys of former softball player Monica Abbott, men’s basketball player Dale Ellis and women’s basketball player Candace Parker.
Abbott will have her No. 7 jersey retired before Tennessee’s March 23 game with Texas A&M, the university announced Thursday.
Ellis and Parker will be honored during their former teams’ 2013-14 seasons.
Abbott pitched for Tennessee from 2004-07 and holds NCAA Division I career records for wins (189), shutouts (112), strikeouts (2,440), starts (206), innings pitched (1,448) and appearances (253).
Ellis played at Tennessee from 1980-83 and ranks sixth in school history in career points (2,065).
Parker led Tennessee to national titles in 2007 and 2008. She was the John Wooden player of the year in 2007 and 2008 and the Naismith player of the year in 2008.
