Pharmacy tech course to start Monday night

A pharmacy technician course will be offered 6-9:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from this coming Monday through May 6 on the main campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin. This comprehensive 50-hour course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB Exam. Technicians work in hospitals, home-infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health-care settings, while working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Course content includes medical terminology specific to pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, IV flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. The registration fee is $999 per person, and textbooks and supplies are included. The course is sponsored by the UT Martin Office of Extended Campus and Online Studies.
