Armed robber still sought
Armed robber still sought | Armed robbery, Regions Bank, University of Tennessee at Martin, lock down, Martin Police Department, FBI, David Moore, stolen vehicle from Benton County
The Martin Police Department in conjunction with the FBI are investigating the armed robbery of the Regions Bank branch located on University Street in Martin, where a gunman allegedly held employees at bay at noon today (Friday).
Initial unconfirmed reports state the MPD and UT Martin Safety and Security have put the University of Tennessee at Martin under lockdown while searching for the suspect in the crime. Those orders by authorities have been lifted at this time.
The Department of Safety and Security on campus alerted UTM students of the incident via text message giving the suspect's description, stating it was believed to be a black male wearing a wig driving a tan Jeep that was reportedly stolen several days ago from Benton County in Middle Tennessee. Local authorities have told students and faculty at the UT Martin to stay inside and lock their doors while police search for the robbery suspect who is believed to be on campus.
The lock down was over after 2 p.m. A press release issued by MPD Chief David Moore states several buildings on the campus were cleared before the lock down was lifted.
The vehicle was reportedly found on Lot 18 behind the student health center on campus although this remains unconfirmed.
Bud Grimes, Director Of University Relations said that the lock down was given an "all-clear" from UT Martin Safety and Security Director Scott Robbins after 2 p.m.
Authorities are still seeking the suspect. The release cites he took an undetermined amount of the money from the bank.
