Jackets don't repeat win in rematch with Union City
Jackets don't repeat win in rematch with Union City | Union City Tornadoes, Greenfield Yellowjackets, Taylor Bruff, Craig Lowrance, Greenfield, Tennessee

Turn two — Greenfield senior Colin Medling avoids the slide of Tornado Craig Lowrance in an effort to turn a double play during the Yellowjackets' loss to Union City on Tuesday.
There was no sense of deja vu when the Greenfield Yellowjackets took on the Union City Tornadoes on consecutive days this week.
The Jackets put together a solid effort to earn a 4-3 road win at Union City on Monday. The story line changed completely on Tuesday as Greenfield never did slow the Tornadoes to fall by a final of 15-1.

The first pitch of the game was a harbinger of things to come on Tuesday.
Taylor Bruff led off with a first pitch homer over the fence in right center field for a quick 1-0 Union City lead. Bruff's dinger was the first of three home runs Union City batters bashed against Greenfield in the 15-1 loss for the Jackets.
A double, an error and two walks in the first inning allowed Union City to build a 5-0 lead.
Greenfield got one of those runs back in the home half of the first inning. Steven Johnson reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a RBI bloop single to left by Daniel Ricketts.
The Tornadoes, who sent nine to the plate in the first inning, had Bruff leading off again in the second. Bruff singled and scored on Craig Lowrance's homer to center.
Union City went on to score six runs in the second inning. Will Townes ripped the third UC homer to drive in two of those runs as the Tornadoes led 11-1.
Greenfield was retired in order in the second, fourth and fifth innings. The only time the Jackets threatened to score was in the third. Brett Perkins singled up the middle to lead off and Cody Ricketts singled to center to put runners on first and third with nobody out. Lowrance retreated to make a tough catch in deep center field on Johnson's shot for the first out. Two strikeouts stranded the runners.
Union City added a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to close out scoring.

The Greenfield Yellowjackets got a solid effort on the mound and clutch at-bats up and down the lineup to nip the host Union City Tornadoes, 4-3, with a run in the top of the seventh inning Monday afternoon.
"I was really proud of our guys today. They competed and believed in themselves and came away with a hard-fought win," Greenfield head coach Mike Riggs said.
UC got on the board first with a run in their opening at-bat on a double and a two-out error.
The Jackets waited until the third inning to score. Greenfield got things going with a leadoff walk by Brett Perkins. Cody Ricketts' fielder's choice was followed by back-to-back doubles by Steven Johnson and Colin Medling. Jake Lasater brought Medling home with a two-out single for a 3-1 GHS lead.
The Twisters cut their deficit to one with a run in the fourth. A leadoff walk, a single and a two-out error did the damage. Union City went on to tie the score at 3-all in the sixth, manufacturing a run with a walk, a sacrifice and a single.
The score didn't stay even long as Greenfield scored the winning run in the top of the seventh. Again things got started with a leadoff walk by Perkins. Cody Ricketts moved him over with a sacrifice bunt and Johnson's RBI double brought Perkins across home plate.
Medling took the mound in the bottom of the seventh to close the game. The senior gave out a leadoff walk, but a sacrifice bunt, a strikeout and a line out ended the game. Medling got the save and Cody Ricketts earned the win for GHS.
"I can't say enough about the job Cody Ricketts did on the mound. Also, we've played three games and only given up six earned runs. Brett Perkins, our catcher, has a lot to do with that as well," Riggs said.
Union City starter Chase Hamlin took the loss.
At the plate for Greenfield, Johnson and Lasater were both 2-for-4, while Medling went 2-for-3. For Union City, Camron Sherwood was a perfect 3-for-3, while Will Townes was 2-for-3.
