Westview freshman right-hander Shaylon Robb dominated on the mound in the Lady Chargers' 7-1 win over the Crockett County Lady Cavaliers on Tuesday at the Martin Recreation Complex. Robb didn't allow a base hit and struck out 13 Lady Cavs as Westview improved its overall record to 10-3-1 and earned its first District 13-AA win of the season. Offensively, Westview got on the board in the first inning. An error allowed speedy Kelly Gaston on first to leadoff the at-bat. She scored on Sam Giesler's single for a 1-0 WHS lead. Westview scored the eventual winning run in the second inning. Jenna Hazelwood reached on an error and McKenzie Norris walked. Both Lady Chargers raced home on Gaston's single for a 3-0 Westview lead. In the third, Carmesha Owens singled and later scored on a wild pitch. Three WHS runs in the fourth inning extended the lead to 7-0. The lone hiccup for Robb came in the fifth inning. Two walks, a hit batter and a dropped third strike eventually allowed the Lady Cavs to bring their lone run across the plate. Gaston led WHS going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. |
