back at ya — Westview Charger Reggie Morrow returns a shot during competition with Dyersburg on Monday afternoon at the Skyhawk Tennis Complex in Martin. The Dyersburg team returned home with a 4-3 team win over Westview.
The Westview Chargers played host to the visiting Dyersburg Trojans in tennis action on Monday. The Dyersburg squads picked up team wins in both boys and girls competition.
In boys play, the Chargers fell 6-1. The lone victory for Westview came at No. 5 singles as Griffin Pochop's steady play defeated Jacob Landfield's attempt at a power game, 8-5.
In contests that did not play a role in the final team score, the No. 3 WHS doubles duo of Elliott Coleman and Brent Vickers earned an 8-2 win over Jacob Landfield and Hunter Jordan.
In singles play, Westview's No. 1 Max Gearin fell to Tallon Scott, 8-5. The Chargers were blanked 8-0 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. TV Harris, playing at No. 2 was topped by Blake Hilgencamp. At No. 3, Charger Russell Morrow fell to Zach Cathey. At No. 4 singles, Reggie Morrow was defeated by Rick VanSant, 8-2.
In other singles action, Dyersburg's Matt Wolf tripped Coleman, 8-4, at No. 6 and at No. 7 Westview's Brent Vickers fell to Jordan, 8-5.
In girls play, Dyersburg swept through WHS, winning 7-0. No doubles matches were played.
The closest WHS came to a win was at No. 2 and No. 4. At No. 2, Lady Charger Ashleigh Ary fell to Megan Hunter, 8-6. At No. 4, Westview's Laura Gullett was nipped by Hannah Chapman, 9-7.
At No. 1 singles, Kesley Gibson fell to Elizabeth Finley, 8-4. At No. 3, Amy Olds was downed by Emma Caylor, 8-3. At No. 5, Nour Haddad lost to Sarah Houston, 8-3. At No. 6, Courtney Atkins was dropped by Eva Hays, 8-0. At No. 7, Whitney Mount fell to Allison Palmer, 8-2. Competing at No. 8, Rachel Coleman was stopped by Deanna Plewa, 8-4. At No. 9, Beck Lee lost to Faith Davis, 8-5, and at No. 10, Kriston Randles fell to Jazmaine McElrath, 8-4.
