Piano ensembles to perform Monday

The University of Tennessee at Martin piano ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Harriet Fulton Theatre on the UT Martin campus. It is free and open to the public. The piano ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Elaine Harriss, professor of music. A wide variety of musical selections for one piano, four hands and two pianos, four and eight hands will be presented. Included on the program are two eight-hand works, Smetena’s “Rondo in C Major” and Moszkowski’s “Spanish Dance.” Works for piano duo, two pianos and four hands, will be Rachmaninoff’s “Romance” from his second suite, “Venus” from Holst’s “Planets,” and two short pieces by Gurlitt. Piano duets, one piano and four hands, include Jensen’s “Nocturne,” Op. 59, No. 1, and two light-hearted numbers, ”C.S. Theme and Variations” by Compton and “Put On a Happy Face” from “Bye Bye Birdie” by Strouse. UT Martin piano students performing are Harold Johnson of Memphis, Andrew Moore of South Fulton, Brandon Whaley of Dresden and Terrill Wilson of Munford. Special guests performing will be members of the Martin Philharmonic Music Guild, including Rella Carp, Linda Farmer, Elaine Harriss, Allison Nelson Loebbaka and Amy Yeung.
