PRESIDENTIAL HONOREES — Several students at Union City Elementary School were recently honored with the Presidential Award, which recognizes fifth-grade students nationwide who have achieved high academic standards. The students who meet the criteria receive a certificate signed by President Bush. The local recipients this year included (from left) Braedon Barnett, Thomas Beard, Hunter Corley, Ellis Critchlow, Leandra Moore and Braden Turner. At UCES, the award is presented to students who have had a grade point average of 93 or above for fourth and fifth grades; scored “advanced” in all four content areas of the most recent TCAP; and had an average of 93 or higher in percentile scores from reading/language arts and math on the most recent TCAP test.
