Delphian Review Club holds Christmas luncheon

Jenny Kirkland recently hosted members of the Delphian Review Club in her home for their annual Christmas luncheon. As they were greeted at the door by Mrs. Kirkland and co-hostess Pat Wade, members were offered Yuletide champagne cocktails served in crystal flutes and appetizers of roasted pecans. Tables, each set for four and covered in crimson linen cloths, were placed around the Kirklands’ 12-foot Christmas tree in their poinsettia-filled atrium. Centerpieces of red roses and fresh holly arranged in silver bowls graced each table. Following the invocation by chaplain Martha Clendenin, the members were treated to a delicious meal prepared by co-hostess Betty Smith and served on Christmas china. Mrs. Smith’s menu included Festive Apple Salad, Roulade of Pork, Squash Robin, Pecan Rice and rolls. She served her special Baileys Irish Cream Cheesecake for dessert. Mrs. Smith presented each of the 19 members present with festive jars of her homemade bread and butter pickles and chow chow. Published in The Messenger 1.7.09
