Goodyear announces five day work week

Goodyear-Union City Tuesday afternoon announced it has provided its associates with the required 60-day notice of its intent to reduce the Union City work schedule from a seven-day continuous operating schedule to a five-day schedule. This is in response to current market challenges and the weak economy. “We don’t yet know what impact this will have on our workforce. Those details will be worked out in the weeks to come,” said Jimmy Cagle, manager of communications at the plant. Last week Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. said it plans to cut nearly 5,000 jobs this year after a sharp drop in sales led to a loss of $330 million in the fourth quarter. About 60 of those lost jobs will be at the Union City plant.
