MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin’s Matt Stephens was named to the Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golf All-Newcomer Team at a banquet following first round play at the OVC Champion-ships Monday night. Stephens’ selection to the All-Newcomer team marks the third consecutive year that a Skyhawk has been represented on the all-conference listing.
“Matt earned this well deserved honor after having a wonderful regular season for us,” said UT Martin head coach Jerry Carpenter.
Stephens finished the season with a stroke average of 74.48, which was second best on the Skyhawks team. The freshman's best performance of the season came at the weather-shortened Grover Page Classic when he carded a 6-under-par 66 to win the tournament for his first collegiate win. Stephen’s round of 66 was also the lowest single round turned in by any member of the UT Martin team this season.
