Officers with the Martin Police Department arrested Brandon Scott Ollis, 33, of Hillsboro Street in Martin shortly after 5 a.m. on Tuesday. According to a press release issued by the department, a call from a citizen on Crestview Street in Martin alerted officers to a vehicle that fled the scene of a car burglary in that neighborhood. The suspect allegedly broke out a window of the vehicle that belonged to the witness and reportedly took electronic equipment from the passenger compartment. The release states four other burglaries that occurred the night before have been linked to Ollis. Ollis is a maintenance worker at the Ridgetop Apartment complex where he resides. During a search of Ollis’s apartment, MPD officers discovered property from 14 vehicle burglaries dating as far back as December of last year, three vandalisms and one theft of property. “Excellent witness reporting and quick and alert response by patrol officers Larry Baker and Jennifer Owens in locating the suspect’s get away vehicle and identifying stolen property are credited with solving these cases,” MPD Chief David Moore noted in the press release. Ollis is being held in the Weakley County Detention Center pending an arraignment this afternoon. In other MPD news, officers responded to a fight in progress at the 731 Club on Church Street in Martin early Sunday morning. During an attempt to take the suspect, 19-year-old Ricky Booker, into custody, the incident report states MPD Ptl. Andrew Rhodes was “verbally accosted” by the suspect. Booker led Ptl. Guy Pryor and Rhodes on a short foot pursuit before he was taken into custody. The report cites Booker attempted to resist arrest once again, assaulting Pryor and damaging his watch, before he was hit with pepper spray. Booker faces charges of assault, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and vandalism. WCP 5.07.09
