Weakley County drivers finish in first place



A pair of Weakley County drag racers were the quickest to the finish line during action Saturday night at the Northwest Tennessee Motorsports Park in Gleason.
Palmersville resident Alex Montgomery was the top finisher in the Junior Dragster 8-12 age division reaching a speed of 61.31 mph to accomplish the winning feat. It was another Palmersville resident in Nate Montgomery rolling into second place with a speed of 50.78 mph. Both drivers did foul on the start.
Dresden was also represented among the winners on Saturday night. Mike Peeler, of Dresden, used a lightning-quick reaction time of .002 to propel his 1970 Challenger to a first-place finish in the Pro (No Box) division. Peeler's Challenger hit a top speed of 95.11 mph in taking the prize. Holladay resident Phil Davis finished in second place behind Peeler in the division, driving his 1973 Nova to a speed of 98.06 mph.
In the Super Pro division, Parsons resident Willie Mills took first place with a top speed of 111.68 mph. Mills was racing in a 1955 Chevy. Robbie Graves, of Jackson, followed in second place. Graves drove his 2008 M&M dragster to a speed of 134.36 mph.
In the Junior Dragster age 13-17 division, Kyle Chapp, from Mayfield, Ky., was the top finisher with a speed of 80.79 mph. Taking second place in the division was Baylee Coffelt from Waverly with a top speed of 78.51 mph.
