The Messenger 07.01.09 The Paul Meek Library at the University of Tennessee at Martin has two new art exhibits that are free and open to the public through July. Les MacDiarmid, a local artist and University of Tennessee at Martin alumnus, has provided a number of eclectic paintings for display. MacDiarmid is both a painter and mural artist. He has hand-painted murals for residences, schools, businesses and public buildings for most of his career. The library also has an exhibit of photographs by Nan Cook, a recent graduate of the University of Memphis with a bachelor of arts degree in art history and the daughter of Doug and Jennifer Cook, UT Martin Department of Visual and Theatre Arts chair and Education Student Services director, respectively. Ms. Cook uses different traditional cameras, including an old large-format press camera, to capture her subjects and the gelatin-silver photographic (dry plate) process in developing images. These two exhibits will be on display throughout the month of July. For more information, contact the library at (731) 881-7060.
