Martin native dies in boating accident

A Martin native was killed last week by a drunk boater at Kentucky Lake. Renee Morris Adams, 47, of Murfreesboro was with family members on the lake Thursday. Adams suffered fatal injuries when a bass boat operated by David Phelps, 37, of Woodlawn collided into her family’s boat. Adams’ 16-year-old daughter, Meghan, was also injured during the accident and transported to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. The daughter was reportedly released from the hospital on Friday. According to reports, Phelps was arrested and charged with boating under the influence. Authorities were waiting on the results of Phelps’ blood tests before filing additional charges against him. He is free on bond and scheduled to appear in Henry County General Sessions Court on July 16. Adams was born in Martin. She is survived by her husband, Jeff of Murfreesboro, a daughter Meghan and sons, Cord, Clay and Cole. Her father is Floyd Morris of Martin. She was preceeded in death by her mother, Carolyn Morris. Adams graduated from Westview High School. Her services were held Monday at Central Baptist Church in Martin. For the complete obituary, see Page 7. WCP 7.07.09
