Zack Terry receives a heart transplant
Posted: Friday, August 7, 2009 9:20 am
It has been 19 months since Dresden teenager Zack Terry was first diagnosed with a condition that has caused his heart to enlarge. The Terry family discovered their oldest son, Zack, had dilated cardiomyopathy in 2008 when he was a junior at Dresden High School. In May 2009, Zack was admitted to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville as No. 1 on the heart donor transplant list. Tuesday, the families prayers were answered as Zack was taken into surgery around 7 p.m. that night to receive his new heart. According to family reports, Zack came out of surgery at around 4 Wednesday morning. Zack will remain in the hospital for another 7 to 10 days to ensure the transplant was successful. After that, Zack will enter the Ronald McDonald House for four to six more weeks. Over the weekend, with the help of the Sons of the American Legion, local Legion posts in Dresden and Martin and The Stable, $2,900 was raised during ‘Grillin’ for Zack’ to help benefit the family.
