The standout Westview basketball player gave a verbal commitment to Florida Gulf Coast University on Tuesday night to continue her athletic career at the collegiate level. FGCU is located in Fort Myers, Fla. "I'm excited. I really like the way they play. It's a good fit for me. They go fast and shoot the ball," Rechis said. "I'm glad she got it over with. Now she can have fun her senior year and know that's there waiting for her. She doesn't have to stress," Westview head coach Sean Stephenson said. Rechis, the Lady Chargers' all-time leading scorer with 2,131 points after just three seasons, helped leaded Westview to the state tournament last season. The sharp-shooting guard was named to the All-State Tournament team for her efforts in Murfreesboro in addition to earning her way onto the TSWA All-State, the All-Region, All-District Tournament and All-District teams for the third consecutive season. The FGCU Eagles are the defending Atlantic Sun Conference regular-season champions. Last season the Eagles, led by head coach Karl Smesko, advanced to the WNIT second round for the second straight year before losing in overtime to the eventual champions, USF. In addition to the Eagles, Rechis received scholarship offers from UT Martin, Union University, University of South Carolina Upstate and Middle Tennessee State University. "I know that anywhere I go I'll have to work to prove my spot. If I keep working, I'll earn my spot," the sharpshooter said. Rechis is the daughter of Louie and Shelia Rechis.
