The Delphian Review Club met recently in the home of Jeannine Cranford, with eight members present. President Carolyn Bloebaum called the meeting to order. Congratulations were extended to club member Pat Wade on being named Pride of Obion County.
Guest speaker Norman Williams presented a thought-provoking program on the Middle East. His vast knowledge of Biblical history accentuated his presentation on the Middle East area, those who live there and how Americans are affected today. He said Israel is the central focus of the region, which also includes Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Syria, Iran and Iraq. The five books of Moses, plus Psalms, are common to the history and religious beliefs of Christians, Jews and Muslims — the inhabitants of the volatile area. Jerusalem is the Holy City for both Christians and Jews and is the city toward which Muslims once faced five times a day for prayer as taught by Mohammed in the seventh century. According to Williams, Israel is the center of 90 percent of all current discussions in Congress about the Middle East.
The fascinating hour of facts and stories dating from the time of Abraham up to the situation the world is in today was timely and informative, a spokesman said.
Following the program, Mrs. Cranford served coffee and fresh apple cake, provided by co-hostess Martha Rippy in absentia.
