With the two additions, the Skyhawks now have had 23 weekly awards, 14 of which have come in head coach Craig Roberts’ four-year tenure. UT Martin has now had three Player of the Week selections through the season’s first month, surpassing the season totals for eight individual seasons in UT Martin history. For Rogers, it is her fourth career Player of the Week selection, and second in as many weeks. The Offensive Player of the Week award for Windell is the first of her career. “We are delighted with both of our players getting these awards,” Roberts said. “Both players play special roles within the team and each player continues to develop and show continued leadership qualities.” Windell took over the season point lead for the Skyhawks with her two-goal performance on Sunday in a 5-0 win over SIU Edwardsville. In the 26th minute, the Bristol, England native took a cross from Kendyl Wilson and drilled a shot into the back of the net for her first career goal. Nearly 63 minutes later, the 5-7 midfielder was chosen to take a penalty kick, which was successful for the Skyhawks’ fifth goal of the day. “Alex has finally settled in to her surroundings,” Roberts said. “She’s gone from strength to strength.” A 2008 All-OVC first teamer, Rogers was responsible for UT Martin’s third goal against SIU Edwardsville, a header off a free kick from Sophie Cox. The goal was part of four first-half goals for the Skyhawks. “As team captain, Danielle continues to lead by example and is very deserving of this award,” Roberts said. The Skyhawks will open the OVC season this weekend, as they will travel to Tennessee Tech for a 4 p.m. showdown on Friday, followed by a match against Jacksonville State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
