BULLETIN: David Cranford, who was injured in the assault, died Friday at a Jackson hospital. Charges were expected to be upgraded against those charged in the incident. - - - Three men charged with the assault of a South Fulton man earlier this week at a local bar were arraigned Thursday in Obion County General Sessions Court. Rolie L. Edmaiston Jr., 34, of 486 Maupin Road, Union City, and brothers Sean B. Woodruff, 32, and Jeff T. Woodruff, 26, both of 504 Harrison St., Union City, have each been charged with aggravated assault in connection with the incident Monday night at Pop A Top Bar in Union City. The charges stem from an altercation in which David Cranford, 45, of 1751 Beechwood St., South Fulton, was critically injured. Cranford was listed in extremely critical condition early today at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, according to Union City police. A preliminary hearing for Edmaiston and the Woodruffs has been scheduled for next Thursday at 9 a.m. in Obion County General Sessions Court. Their bonds are set at $50,000 each, authorities said. According to a Union City Police Department news release, police initially responded about 8:10 p.m. Monday to a fight call at Pop A Top Bar, located at 106 East Cheatham St. in Union City. Upon arrival, an officer talked with Cranford and several other witnesses who alleged three other people started fighting with Cranford and left the bar before police arrived. An original offense report filed at the police department indicated Cranford had called his wife to pick him up from the bar and told police he did not wish to press charges at that time. However, Cranford later became ill and was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City, where it was determined he had a head injury. He was subsequently transferred to the Jackson hospital in critical condition, according to the police news release. Published in The Messenger 10.9.09
