Rebel runners shine
at Jackson CC meet

The Obion Central boys’ cross country team was a step ahead of the field at the Madison Academic Meet on Monday.
The Rebels finished first at the Jackson event, while their female counterparts came home in second.
All seven boys — Tanner Noles, Joshua Gale, Garrett Stanford, Travis Daniel, Will McBride, Martin Reyna and J.T. Ragsdale — who scored for the OC guys also medaled.
Meanwhile, the Lady Rebels finished behind Trinity Christian Academy and in front of the host team.
Katie Beth Vancleave, Ali McEwen, Laura Burpo, Brittney Dodd, Autumn Yates and Hope Montgomery all medaled for the girls’ team.
A scheduled meet for Thursday at Hardin County has been canceled because of flooding in the area.
Both OC teams will compete again next Tuesday in the Best of West, which will be held in Troy. That meet is scheduled to start at 4.

Skyhawk men’s team
to get ESPN exposure

The UT Martin men’s basketball team will play on ESPNU twice this season, according to the Ohio Valley Conference slate of basketball games on the ESPN Family of Networks for the 2009-10 season.
UT Martin’s game against Tennessee Tech at 8 p.m. on Jan. 14 will be televised live on ESPNU as will the Skyhawks game against Murray State Jan. 30. UT Martin will host both games at Skyhawk Arena in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
The schedule includes 13 total games that will air on either ESPN2 or ESPNU during the year.
The ESPN2 OVC regular season contest pits rivals Murray State and Austin Peay at the Dunn Center on Jan. 9.
The OVC Men’s Basketball Tournament championship game will also air on ESPN2. The OVC Tournament semifinals (which will air on ESPNU) and finals will be held at the Sommet Center in Nashville on March 5-6.

Community pep rally
Thursday for Redmen

A community-wide pep rally is scheduled for 6:30 Thursday evening in South Fulton.
The event, which is part of the high school’s football “Homecoming” festivities, will take place behind the gymnasium (weather permitting.)
The Red Devils (4-3) host Reidland (3-4) Friday night.

Tech player honored
after haunting UTM

Tennessee Tech defensive back Dustin Dillehey did a little bit of everything in his team’s 35-28 win at UT Martin last Saturday.
The junior returned an intercepted pass 41 yards for the game-winning score and was in on a team-best 14 tackles.
As a result, Dillehay was honored with the Ohio Valley Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week award.
Otherwise, Austin Peay running back Ryan White was the league’s top offensive threat, while his teammate Jeremy Ross gained the OVC’s specialist of the week award.

Titans’ DB Harper
will miss six weeks

NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee Titans cornerback Nick Harper will be out up to six weeks after surgery on a broken right forearm.
He is the second defensive back the winless Titans have lost to a broken right forearm.
The other is Vincent Fuller, who was injured Sept. 27 against the New York Jets. The Titans hope he might be able to play Nov. 1.

Coach Jeff Fisher says the Titans will be stretched a bit thin for Sunday’s game at New England and the team might have to make a roster move.
Tight end Craig Stevens was released from a hospital Monday with a concussion. Stevens was knocked out of Sunday night’s 31-9 loss to Indianapolis after a helmet-to-helmet collision with a teammate.
