Dresden man charged with child abuse

A Dresden man was arrested last week after an alleged domestic incident resulted in an injured child.
According to an affidavit of complaint, Dennis Cunningham of Ethridge Street in Dresden was taken into custody Tuesday when an argument escalated into an apparent assault.
A female victim told Dresden police officers that she and Cunningham had been drinking and arguing that night. Cunningham went outside and fell asleep in his vehicle, according to the report.
When he awoke, Cunningham allegedly came back into the victim’s home, grabbed her by the arm and pushed her into the television.
The victim’s child witnessed the attack and attempted to pull Cunningham off of her mother before seeking refuge for her and her sister in the bathroom of the home, according to the report.
Cunningham is accused of throwing a log through the window of the bathroom that struck one of the children in the head.
The juvenile also sustained cuts from the broken window, according to the report. Both victims were treated at the scene.
Cunningham faces one charge of aggravated child abuse, domestic abuse and public intoxication.
