Tim Peemoeller from Hamburg, Germany, recently began a semester of study at Dyersburg State Community College.
He is in the United States as a participant of a year-long exchange program, the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals.
He is one of 75 German scholarship recipients who will study at a select group of 64 colleges in 33 states and complete a six-month internship in a career field. He will also complete a community service project of choice during the fall term. During this year-long program, he will attend seminars in New York City and Washington, D.C.
Peemoeller will also complete an internship with First Citizens National Bank in Dyersburg during the spring.
Connie and Richie Gammons are serving as his host family.
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange, now in its 26th year, was designed to strengthen ties between the younger generation of the United States and Germany. Founded in 1983 and annually endorsed by members of the U.S. Congress and the German Parliament (Bundestag), the program has enabled over 2,500 young professionals to trade countries with their counterparts to live, study and work for a year in a foreign environment.
The program is financially supported by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, under the authority of the Fulbright-Hays Act of 1961, as well as the German Bundestag.
CDS International Inc. is designated to administer the program in the United States through a grant agreement with the U.S. State Department. In Germany, the program is administered by CDS International’s partner organization, Internationale Weiterbildung und Entwicklung gGmbH, in Bonn.
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange is currently seeking qualified American applicants for the 2010-11 program year in Germany.
