MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin’s golf team received a commitment during the early signing period from Clay Harbin of University School of Jackson in Jackson. Harbin joins the Skyhawks with an impressive golf resume from both the high school and junior golf ranks.
Over the last two years, Harbin has tallied 25 wins, one runner-up showing and 45 top 10 finishes. At University School of Jackson, where Harbin prepped, he finished runner-up in the 2008 TSSAA regional tournament, which qualified him for the Tennessee State Golf Tournament where he carded a fourth-place finish. Harbin also earned a spot on the all-state team in addition to being named the Jackson Sun’s West Tennessee High School Golfer of the Year. As a senior, Harbin collected six medalist honors during the regular season, before claiming the individual regional tourney title. He also made his second consecutive appearance in the Tennessee State Tournament, where he finished eighth.
On the junior circuits, he played on the Augusta Area Junior Golf Association, United States Junior Golf and Plantations Junior Golf Tours, collecting 18 top-10 finishes over the last two seasons. He picked up medalist honors at the 2008 Arrowhead Junior in Carrollton, Ga., and the 2009 PJGT Pevely Farms Tournament. Harbin is also the current club champion at Humboldt Golf and Country Club and was a qualifier for the 2008 Junior State Open.
“Clay has had an outstanding high school and junior golf career so far and is one of the best players in our area, which I think will make him an outstanding collegiate golfer,” said UTM head coach Jerry Carpenter. “We are very happy to have Clay join the Skyhawk family.”
