The Dresden Elks Lodge will host the local competition for the 38th Annual Elks Hoop Shoot Saturday, Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. at the Dresden Middle School gym.
The Elks Hoop Shoot competition is a national free-throw shooting contest for boys and girls ages 8-13. The competition is free and open to all area youngsters between 8 and 13 years of age as of April 1, 2010.
Competitors will be divided by gender into groups for ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop.
The boys and girls in each age group with the best scores advance through four tiers of competition to qualify for the national finals.
Local winners at Dresden will compete against other contestants in the district event to be held at Trenton.
Prizes will be awarded to first and second places in each group and all participants will receive a certificate.
