Choir to perform
The Children’s Choir of the Calvary Baptist Church, located at 2250 East Reelfoot Ave. in Union City, will be performing the musical drama “The Christmas County Spelling Bee” Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. worship service.
The musical, under the direction of Kathleen Parker, was written by Celeste Clydesdale and is a bright and energetic, yet worshipful, musical centered around a spelling bee using the different names for Jesus.
The community is invited to this special presentation, according to pastor, the Rev. Melvin Poe.

Appreciation service
Elder R. Dotstry and the congregation of Bashan Baptist Church in Rives invite all family and friends to an appreciation service Sunday for assistant minister Paul and Ann Jenkins.
Special guests for the 2:30 p.m. service will be the Rev. Derrick Fitts and the congregation of Mt. Gilead of Columbus, Ky.
Lunch will be served upon arrival of guests.

Anniversary Sunday set
True Gospel Baptist Church, located at 700 Greenwood St., Union City, will be celebrating its 28th anniversary Sunday.
The theme for the event, “Jesus: The gift that keeps on giving,” will be taken from James 1:17, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above. ...”
The services will begin with the 10 a.m. Sunday School, then a special message will held given at the 11 o’clock hour. There will also be an evening service at 6.
The speaker for the day will be the Rev. Michael Kelly Jr., pastor at True Gospel Baptist Church in Bainsbridge, Ga. Special music will be provided by Jennifer Kelly, the pastor’s wife.
The public is invited to come and celebrate this grand occasion, a spokesman said. All guests will receive a special gift from the church.
The song leader will be Robert Taylor Jr.

New Year’s
celebration planned
An Emancipation Proclamation New Year’s Day Celebration is being planned by churches in the Ken-Tenn area.
The event will be held Jan. 1 at noon at the Union City Civic Auditorium, with keynote speaker Harry Barnes, who serves as pastor of Faith Temple Church of God in Humboldt and as the local NAACP president.
To prepare, a mass choir workshop will be held every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Greater Bethel Church of God in Christ, located at 805 East Gibbs St. in Union City. Each church is being asked to provide at least five choir members for this great celebration.

Ken-Tenn women to meet
The Ken-Tenn Women’s Connection will begin the holiday season with a “How to Trim Your Life” theme at its monthly luncheon meeting on Wednesday at the Ole West Steakhouse and Country Buffet (formerly Kappis Restaurant) at 11 am. The address is 943 Main St. in Martin.
Kay Joyner of Just Jewelry will be the special feature and will show everyone how to “Add a Little Sparkle.” “What lady doesn’t like to add a little ‘bling’ to her winter and holiday wardrobe?,” a spokesman said.
Chairman Maurine Hickman of South Fulton will be performing some holiday favorites, with her “Sounds of Christmas” selections.
The speaker for the luncheon will be Sue Falcone of Greensboro, N.C. Her talk is entitled, “Duct Tape is not the Best Way to Fix Your Life.”
“Please come and join us for fun, fellowship, and good food,” a spokesman said.
All women are welcome to attend.
