Martin businessman passes at age 74



Members of the business community mourned the loss of a respected member over the weekend with the passing of 74-year-old Jack Parker Dobson.
Dobson was the founder of Dobson-Wright Pontiac-GMC-Mazda, Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge in Martin. He owned several used-auto dealerships and purchased and developed businesses and real estate in the four-county area.
Dobson was instrumental in bringing several national franchises to the City of Martin.
The Martin businessman was born Dec. 31, 1935 to Lee J. and Ora Dunn Dobson of Martin.
He was a member of the Oxford Street Church of Christ and served in the Tennessee Army National Guard.
Dobson is survived by his wife of 53 years, Hannah Ferguson Dobson, formerly of Hickman, Ky. and other family, Mike Dobson of Nashville; David Dobson of Martin; Tony and Darlene Dobson of Union City; Jenny Dobson of Brentwood; Laura Dobson Harrison, Grant Harrison and Jack Harrison of Knoxville; Lee Roy Dobson of Antioch; Micky Dobson of Clarksville; Lance Dobson of Vandenburg Air Force Base, Calif.; Parker Dobson and Jonathan Dobson of Union City. Dobson’s sister is June Dobson Lee and niece Charlotte Carroll, both of Martin.
He passed March 6. Services were held March 9 at Bethel Church of Christ in Martin.
