Dyersburg takes two key matches to down WHS

When two close matches at No. 4 and No. 5 singles went in favor of the Dyersburg Lady Trojans, the Westview Lady Chargers tennis team ended up on the short end of the 2-5 score in action on Thursday in Dyersburg. Despite strong efforts from the Lady Chargers (4-3), it was Dyersburg picking up the key close wins. At No. 4 singles, Westview’s Brooklyn Burress was dealt the heartbreak by Lady Trojan Faithe Davis, who came out the victor, 9-8. At No. 5 singles, Lady Charger Melissa Darroch came up just short, falling 8-6 to Corena Hasselle. The two Westview wins came at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Both Lady Chargers fought their way to an 8-6 victory. At No. 1 singles, Lady Charger Chloe Nance defeated Elizabeth Finley, while at No. 2 singles, Westview’s Ashleigh Ary was the victor over Avia Mae Northcut. Dyersburg won the No. 3 singles match with Sarah Haynes downing Cara Burnham, 8-2. The Lady Trojans took both doubles matches. At No. 1 it was the DHS tandem of Finley/Haynes winning over Darroch and Nance, 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, Dyersburg’s Northcut and Davis downed Ary and Burnham, 8-3. In matches that didn’t count toward the team totals, Westview got a doubles win from Burress and Chantia Brown, 6-2, over Amanda Jones and Sarah Hasselle. In the lone extra singles match, Dyersburg’s Kasey Black defeated Lady Charger Dylan Brown, 8-2. The Lady Chargers will take on the Greenfield team on Thursday with action beginning at 3:15 p.m.
