WHS netters split two outings

The host Lady Chargers were dealt a 6-1 loss by the Dyersburg Lady Trojans last Tuesday before knocking off the visiting Gibson County Lady Pioneers, 7-0, on Thursday. Against Dyersburg, WHS got a win at No. 1 singles when Chloe Nance downed Elizabeth Finley, 8-3. The Lady Chargers came close to a win at No. 4 singles, but Dyersburg’s Faithe Davis held off Brooklyn Burress, 9-7. In the other singles matches, Dyersburg was victorious at No. 2 when Auramae Northcutt stopped Ashleigh Ary, 8-2; at No. 3 where Sarah Haynes downed Melissa Darroch, 8-4; and at No. 5 when Corena Hasselle defeated Chantia Brown, 8-4. In doubles action, at No. 1, Lady Trojans Finley and Haynes downed Ary and Nance 8-1. At No. 2 the DHS tandem of Northcutt and Davis stopped Burress and Darroch, 8-1. In other matches that didn’t count toward the team totals in singles, at No. 6, Westview’s Dylan Brown battled to a 7-7 draw with Kasey Black. At No. 7, Westview picked up a 6-5 win as Alexis Beverly topped Amanda Jones. At No. 8, Westview’s Jennifer Hollis was nipped, 6-5, by Sarah Hasselle. In the lone extra doubles match, Westview’s Dylan Brown and Chantia Brown were defeated by Corena Hasselle and Black, 6-2. In the win against Gibson County, the Lady Chargers were truly only threatened in No. 1 doubles. The Lady Pioneer duo of Camri Donald and Bethany Roberson were held back by Westview’s Cara Burnham and Alexis Beverly, 7-5. Westview also picked up the point at No. 2 doubles when Dylan Brown and Hollis stopped Desiree Barnett and Ativa Storey, 6-2. At No. 1 singles, Chloe Nance breezed to a 6-0 victory over Donald. The 6-0 score also went Westview’s way at No. 4 singles where Burress downed Storey. At No. 2 singles, Ary defeated Roberson, 6-3, while Lady Charger Burnham dropped Barnett, 6-1. At No. 4 singles Burress blanked Storey, 6-0. With only four active players available, the Lady Pioneers forfeited the No. 5 singles point.
