Propelled by a seven-run third inning, the Westview Chargers avenged an earlier 12-2 loss and defeated the Greenfield Yellowjackets, 8-1, in the rain this past Friday in Martin.
After scoring a run in the first inning, the Chargers loaded the bases in the bottom of the third. Jonathan Parker singled to drive in Bryton Ramsey and Travis Garner. Brent Gilbert walked, a run came in on a wild pitch and Nick Shell singled in another run. Zack Austin singled through the gap in left field to send another Charger across the plate. Chris Evans loaded the bases with a hit and Ramsey drove in a run on a sac fly to put the home team up 8-0 after three innings.
In the top of the fourth, Heath Crouse doubled to deep right field with one out but was stranded. GHS hurler Jacob Johnson hit two Westview batters and gave up a hit to load the bases in the home half, but the Yellowjacket defense kicked in and stranded all three runners to end the inning.
After a scoreless fifth, Tyler Jones knocked a double to score Dalton Potts and break up the shutout as the Yellowjackets trailed 8-1.
In the top of the seventh, eight straight balls put two Yellowjackets on base. Shell came in to pitch for WHS, however, struck out two and forced a fly out to end the contest with an 8-1 win for Westview.
