A National Guard captain and former University of Tennessee at Martin ROTC instructor has been indicted by a federal grand jury. Joseph Spellings, 29, of Trenton was arrested in April by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for engaging in sexually explicit Internet conversations with a 14-year-old female. He was indicted on two counts of using a computer and cell phone to send nude images to the victim. Spellings is charged with transferring obscene images to a minor under the age of 16 and coercion and enticement, according to an arrest warrant. He is free on a $25,000 bond and was recently ordered by a federal judge to remain on house arrest. Following his arrest, Spellings was relieved of his ROTC instructor duties. WCP 5.20.10
